CALL for ARTISTS
#MakeCancerLessScary
#MakeCancerLessScary is a social media and email initiative of the UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation (JCCF), to raise funds and awareness each fall by leveraging the Halloween holiday and acknowledging that receiving a cancer diagnosis is one of the most frightening experiences in life. Funds raised through Make Cancer Less Scary will be dedicated to research - funding the most promising research initiatives of the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (JCCC), towards creating more effective, less toxic approaches to cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
CALL for ARTISTS
We need your help. This year, we hope to expand our reach, and connect with as many people as possible. The 2021 Make Cancer Less Scary campaign starts now with this Call for Artists to contribute images of their work, and be willing to engage their communities to donate financially. Starting in September, we will post the entries on our Make Cancer Less Scary website (tagging and linking the artists, of course), and visitors to the site will vote for their favorite works by making a $5 donation, per vote.
Submission Categories include:

â—† Student Art (K-12)
We are asking for images of your work only! We are not asking for physical artwork. The images you submit will be posted on our website, and we will collect donations by asking visitors to vote for their favorites. If a visitor is interested in purchasing a piece, we will connect them directly to you!

We will promote the Make Cancer Less Scary website (www.MakeCancerLessScary.com) - showing all artist submissions - to our thousands of supporters, via an email campaign and through social media. We will also be naming award recipients in two categories:

We will highlight the award winners and their artworks across our social media and a dedicated article in our eNewsletter.
*The Jury consists of professional designers and art collectors.
OUR THEME
Our theme is “Enchanted Creatures”. We leave it up to the artists to interpret the theme however they choose; artworks do not have to be goth or Halloween-themed. Artists are welcome to interpret the theme in an original composition, or submit an existing work that fits the theme. Graphic designers and lettering artists are welcome to create their variation of the text: "Make Cancer Less Scary".
Please note that all submissions must be family-friendly. Please avoid adult/graphic imagery, skulls, blood, etc.
